Now Urbanism
After 20 hours on the plane, flying in straight from Seattle, Jeff Hou, Professor at Washington University and teaching as visiting professor at SKUOR in the moment, gave an inspiring and thoughtful lecture about the great ressources for city-making people as experts of their everyday lifes bring along. Brilliant examples from all over the globe showed perfectly what fruitful ideas and solutions people come up with in self-organized, bottom-up city making. Or to put it in the words of Jeffrey Hou:
Now Urbanism recognizes the rich complexities of the present city not as barriers or obstacles but as grounds for uncovering opportunity and unleashing potential. It views city making as grounded in the imperfect, messy, yet rich reality of the present city and the everyday purposeful agency of its dwellers.
The opening of the exhibition PARK! PLATZ! PLAY!with a short talk about the Viennese situation regarding parking space as public space with Franz Denk and Patrick Jaritz from IG Architektur showed fine examples of everday day urbanism producing visions and pictures of what the future of the city could be - it's up to us! The exhibition will be on at the Festivalzentrale Hundsturm at Margarethenstraße 166 until the end of the festival on Oct 13th. Take a look!
